In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bush Hill like this:
BUSH-HILL, a village in the north of Middlesex; on the New River, 1½ mile S of Enfield. It has a post office under Edmonton, London, N. Bush-Hill Park, adjacent to it, belonged to the Mellishes and the Sambrokes; has grounds laid out by Le Notre; and contains some of Gibbon's carvings.
