Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Millburn Tower

Millburn Tower, a mansion, with extensive wooded grounds, in Ratho parish, Edinburghshire, ½ mile NNW of Gogar station and 5½ miles WSW of Edinburgh. A castellated tower, with a long range of lower building attached, it was built by the Right Hon. Sir Robert Liston, G.C.B., who lived here from 1821 to 1836. His grandniece married Sir William Foulis, Bart. of Woodhall; and their son, Sir James Liston Foulis, ninth Bart. since 1634 (b. 1847; suc. 1858), holds 2804 acres in the shire, valued at £2164 per annum.—Ord.
