Holmfirth, town and ry. sta., S. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 6 miles S. of Huddersfield and 20 miles NE. of Manchester, pop. 5763; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has extensive woollen mfrs. At Holmfirth the Bilberry reservoir burst on Feb. 5, 1852, involving the loss of 81 lives and of property valued at £100,000.
