Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Kensington

Kensington.-- parl. bor. and par. with ry. sta., Middlesex, in W. of London, 2190 ac., pop. 163,151; contains the South Kensington Museum, the gardens of the Horticultural Society, the Kensington Gardens (300 acres), which extend to Hyde Park, and Kensington Palace (the property of the Crown since the time of William III.), in which Queen Victoria was born. Kensington parl. bor. is divided into 2 divisions - viz., North and South-1 member for each division; it was made a parl. bor. in 1885.
