Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Penmaenmawr

Penmaenmawr, vil. with ry. sta., on N. coast of Carnarvonshire, on river Machno, 4 miles SW. of Conway; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; is a pleasant watering place, with firm sandy beach, and affords excellent and safe bathing at nearly all stages of the tide. Penmaenmawr Mountain (the northern terminating point of the Snowdon range), in SW. vicinity of sta., has an alt. of 1553 ft.; on its summit is Dinas Penmaen, or Braich-y-Dinas, an ancient British fort, capable of holding 20,000 men.
