Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Willoughby on the Wolds

Willoughby on the Wolds, par. and vil., Notts - par., 2080 ac., pop. 480; vil., near border of Leicestershire, 7 miles NE. of Loughborough; P.O., called Willoughby; is a picturesque and interesting place, and was the site of a Roman station. Many antiquities have been found in the neighbourhood. Near the church was fought a sanguinary battle between the Royalist and Parliamentary troops in July 1648.
