Mevagissey, fishing town and par., Cornwall, on bay of same name, 5 miles S. of St Austell, 1380 ac. and 29 foreshore, pop. 2186; P.O., T.O. Mevagissey has a good harbour, enclosed by 2 short piers. The inhabitants are mostly engaged in the pilchard fisheries, which have formed a local industry for many centuries.
