Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Donibristle

Donibristle, seat of the Earl of Moray, Dalgetty par., Fifeshire, on Firth of Forth, 3 miles SW. of Aberdour; was the scene of the murder of the youthful Earl of Moray by the Earl of Huntly in 1592, an event which forms the subject of a fine old ballad; the mansionhouse was burned (the third time) in 1858, and is still in ruins; the grounds are very fine and extensive.
