Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Netley

Netley, vil. with ry. sta., Hound par., Hants, on NE. side of Southampton Water, 6 miles SE. of Southampton; P.O., T.O., called Netley Abbey; Netley Abbey, a Cistercian house founded in time of Henry III., is now an interesting ruin, in a beautiful situation; at Netley are the Army Medical School and the Royal Victoria Military Hospital (1857), the latter with accommodation for1000patients.
