Pop., within the original limits, in 1851, 52,934; in 1861, 86,252. Houses, 15,278. Pop., exc. of H. sub-d., in 1851, 36,866; in 1861, 57,099. Houses, 10,558. Marriages, exc. of H. sub-d., in 1863, 621; births, 2,858,- of which 136 were illegitimate; deaths, 1,676,-of which 862 were at ages under 5 years, and 32 at ages above 85.
