Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for OGMORE (The)

OGMORE (The), a river of Glamorgan; rising in several head-streams, in the central parts of the county, among mountains with extreme altitude of 1,859 feet; running southward to Bridgend, and south-westward thence to the Bristol channel, 6 miles N W of Nash Point; and making altogether a run of about 16 miles. It isjoined by the Ogwrfach, the Garw, the Llynvi, and the Ewenny; it forms a small estuary over the last 1¼ mile of its run; and it has always been famed for the excellence of its salmon, in somuch that its very name signifies "salmon water."
