In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bigby like this:

BIGBY, a parish in Caistor district, Lincoln; 2½ miles SSE of Barnetby r. station, and 4 E of Glanford-Brigg. It includes the hamlets of Kettleby and Kettleby-Thorp; and has a post office under Brigg. Acres, 3,440. Real property, £4,916. Pop., 249. Houses, 44. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Lincoln. Value, £708.* Patron, V. D. Elwes, Esq. The church is early English, in good condition. There is a free school. Roman coins and fragments of a Roman pavement have been found.
