NUN-BURNHOLME, a township and a parish in Pocklington district, E. R. Yorkshire. The townshiplies on the W side of the Wolds, 1¼ mile N E of Burn by r. station, and 3 E by S of Pocklington; and contains a small village of its own name. Acres, 1, 480. Real property, £2, 118. Pop., 248. ...
Houses, 50. The parish contains also the township of Thorpe-le-Street, and comprises 2, 137 acres. Post-town, Hayton, under York. Real property, £2, 904. Pop., 281. Houses, 55. The property is divided among a few. A Benedictine nunnery was founded here in the time of Henry III., by Roger de Morlais. The living is a rectory in the diocese of York. Value. £350.* Patron, the Arch bishop of York. The church is not good.
