In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Fintray like this:
Fintray.-- par. and vil. (Hatton of Fintray), Aberdeenshire, --par., 7319 ac., pop. 1032; vil., near river Don, 1¼ mile NE. of Kinaldie sta., which is 10½ miles NW. of Aberdeen; T.O.; 1 mile E. of vil. is Fintray House, seat of the Forbeses of Craigievar.
