In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Adbolton like this:

ADBOLTON, a hamlet, formerly a parish, on the river Trent, near Grantham canal, 1¼ mile SE of Nottingham. It is now included in Holme-Pierrepoint parish. Pop., 29.
