Parkhold  Herefordshire

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Parkhold like this:

PARKHOLD, a township in Ledbury parish, Hereford; 2 miles S by E of Ledbury. Acres, 380. Real property, £527. Pop., 61. Houses, 11.

The name "Parkhold" has not been found on a map. The location given is that of the road junction by the Trumpet inn. Although the Bartholomew and Imperial gazetteers locate Parkhold south-east of Ledbury, this seems to be a confusion with "Parkway". "Parkhold Cottage" is at Trumpet, and other sources locate Parkhold north-west of Ledbury: a herefordshire County Council web site describes Parkhold as having been transferred from Ledbury to Pixley (http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/htt/smrSearch/FieldNames/1385.aspx, accesses 12/1/2011); Littlebury's Directory and Gazetteer of Herefordshire (1876-7) lists a farmer as having had land at "Munsley and Parkhold" (http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HEF/Bosbury/Littlebury1876.html, accessed 12/1/2011).
