In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Cwmcothi like this:

CWMCOTHY, a hamlet in Conwil-Cayo parish, Carmarthen; near the head of the river Cothy, 7½½ miles NW of Llandovery. Pop., 614.

The location is that of "Blaen Cothi", a former settlement close to the source of the Cothi. The name "Cwmcothi" has not been found on a topographic map.
