In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Stechford like this:

STECHFORD, a hamlet on the NE verge of Worcestershire; adjacent to the Birmingham and Coventry railway, 3 miles E of Birmingham. It has a station on the railway, and a post-office under Birmingham.
