In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Tantallon like this:
Tantallon Castle, ruin, on coast of Haddingtonshire, in par. and 3 miles E. of North Berwick; stands on a lofty precipice facing the Bass Rock, was the property of the Earl of Angus, and was dismantled by the Covenanters in 1639.
Tantallon is now part of EAST LOTHIAN Council. Click here for graphs and data of how EAST LOTHIAN has changed over two centuries. For statistics about Tantallon itself, go to Statistics.
