In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Ardmore like this:

Ardmore.-- par. and vil., S. co. Waterford, on bay of same name, 7 miles ENE. of Youghal and 14 miles SW. of Dungarvan, 24,215 ac., pop. 3614; P.O. The vil. is a watering-place, and has a good natural harb. and a round tower 91 ft. high; pop. 350.
