In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described St George in the East like this:
St George in the East, par., Middlesex, within the parl. bor. of Tower Hamlets, 243 ac., pop. 47,157.
The location is that of St. George in the East church. It is questionable whether St.George in the East exists as a "place" distinct from Shadwell, but it is named as a locality on the modern 1:25,000 map.
