In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Wreighill like this:
WREIGHILL, a township in Rothbury parish, Northumberland , 5¼ miles W of Rothbury. Acres, 411. Pop., 13. Houses, 3. This place was once populous; but it suffered fearful devastation, first by an incursion of moss-troopers in 1412,-next by a visitation of the place in 1665.
