• Total Population 1801 to 1971: Population grew from 37,216 in 1801 to 43,500 in 1971.
• Age Structure, in 5-year bands, from 1851 to 1971: In 1851, only 7.35 per cent of the population were aged 65 and over, but by 1971 14.99 per cent were.
