Here we are presenting statistics for a historical unit, which may have changed its boundaries significantly during the period covered.
Each of the four historical Scottish cities had a separate county report from 1911 onwards. For Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow the start date for the "County of City" status has been identified. For Edinburgh the status start date is undetermined and because of this it has been assigned a start date of 1911 by when it must have existed.
